The city’s Parks and Recreation Department will host an open house on July 18 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Durango Community Recreation Center — 2700 Main Ave — to celebrate National Parks and Recreation Month.

The City Council will vote on whether to include a ballot question about the Durango Fire Protection District in the November election — a proposal aimed at letting voters decide its future.

The vote will occur at its next regular meeting — scheduled for July 15 — as council members assess local fire service needs.

The city of Durango has been awarded Organization of the Year by the International Association for Public Participation—an honor given for its strong community engagement efforts.

City officials said the award reflects its work to involve residents in public decision-making.
